true
For the entire decade of the 1980s, nobody on Earth scored more points than a quiet, poetry-writing forward playing a mile above sea level — and almost nobody outside Denver noticed.
Chapter
In the thin air of the Rockies, the Nuggets ran the fastest offense in the league under Doug Moe — up and down until the scoreboard read like a football game — and English was the metronome, that high, feathered jumper falling the same way every night.
Chapter
He was never loud about it. Off the floor he published books of poetry and acted in a film; on it he just kept scoring — eight straight All-Star trips, more than 25,000 points, the Nuggets' all-time leader to this day.
Chapter
The Hall of Fame came in 1997. What Denver knew, and the coasts took years to learn, is that greatness doesn't have to shout to be great.
