Act IV

The Ballad of Cedric Ceballos

Birth to now — the making of a legend, narrated and scored.

Los Angeles Lakers

Turning pro

Drafted 1990 as a Forward.

true

At the 1992 Slam Dunk Contest, Cedric Ceballos tied a blindfold over his eyes, dribbled the length of the floor blind, and threw down a dunk he could not see. They called it 'Hocus Pocus,' and it won.

Chapter

But the blindfold was the trick, not the man. In Los Angeles he became a genuine bucket-getter — a forward who could score in bunches, earning an All-Star nod in 1995 as one of the faces of a young Lakers team clawing back toward relevance.

Chapter

He carried a scorer's swagger and a showman's instinct, exactly the kind of theatrical flair this city rewards. On the marquee that prizes the spectacular, Ceballos understood the assignment: give them something they've never seen — even if you have to close your eyes to do it.
