Brook Lopez rebuilt himself from a post-up scorer into a stretch-five champion.

Drafted 10th in 2008, he became the Nets' all-time leading scorer and a 2013 All-Star before foot injuries and a shifting league forced a reinvention.

He added the three-point shot, and in Milwaukee became a floor-spacing, shot-blocking anchor — winning the 2021 title and making two All-Defensive teams.

He led the NBA in total blocks in 2022-23 and finished runner-up for Defensive Player of the Year, before signing with the Clippers in 2025.

LIFE

Roots & the rise

One of the most unusual career arcs for a big man, Brook Lopez went from a back-to-the-basket Nets franchise scorer to a floor-spacing, rim-protecting cornerstone on a championship team.

Brook Robert Lopez was born April 1, 1988 in the Los Angeles area, the twin brother of fellow NBA center Robin Lopez. A McDonald's All-American and All-Pac-10 star at Stanford, he was drafted 10th overall by the New Jersey Nets in 2008.

He became the Nets' all-time leading scorer and franchise blocks leader and made his lone All-Star team in 2013, weathering foot injuries before adding the three-point shot late in his Nets tenure. A Lakers stopover followed.

In Milwaukee (2018-2025) he became the defensive anchor and stretch-five on a contender, winning the 2021 title, making two All-Defensive teams, and leading the NBA in total blocks in 2022-23. He signed with the Clippers in 2025.

BEYOND THE GAME

Off the Court

Brook and his twin Robin are famous Disney enthusiasts — a fandom that helped inspire his 'Splash Mountain' nickname once he started raining threes in Milwaukee. He's also known for a love of comic books and pop culture.

He comes from a basketball family; a maternal grandfather played in the National Industrial Basketball League, and brother Alex played college and pro ball abroad.

ANALYSIS

What the numbers say

Stretch-Five Value

Lopez is a rare big who protects the rim as a drop-coverage anchor while spacing the floor from three — a two-way profile that unlocks modern lineups.

Rim Protection

An elite shot-blocker with excellent timing and verticality, he led the NBA in total blocks in 2022-23 and was DPOY runner-up that year.

Mobility Limits

Limited lateral quickness makes him targetable in space and switch-heavy schemes, and he's a modest rebounder for his size — best in drop coverage.

Lopez signed with the Clippers in 2025 on a reported two-year deal, providing the same floor-spacing and rim protection that anchored a champion. In his late 30s he's a specialist whose shooting and shot-blocking still fit a contender's frontcourt.
